SAN DIEGO – LifeProof, the official waterproof case of X Games, congratulates Jarryd McNeil on his epic performance today. McNeil earned a gold medal in the LifeProof Moto X Step Up at X Games Austin 2016.

Reaching a max height of 33’, McNeil, 24, shared gold with with Czech’s Libor Podmal. The competitors earned dual gold medals, giving McNeil a gold medal in his first Moto X Step Up competition at X Games.

“It’s awesome to be working with LifeProof and to get a gold medal my first time in Step Up, I’m stoked,” said McNeil on his gold-medal win. 

The LifeProof Pro FMX rider took gold in Best Whip during X Games Austin 2015. He came to Austin this year with five X Games medals under his belt, including one gold and two silvers. In the off-season, McNeil travels with Nitro Circus and splits his time between Australia and Southern California.

Step Up involves shooting straight up into the air to reach the highest maximum height on a motorcycle. The competitor then must land the jump, hitting the backside of the ramp with as much as 1,400 pounds of force.

McNeil is the first LifeProof athlete to compete at X Games Austin 2016 and is the reigning gold medalist in Moto X Best Whip. Other LifeProof athletes competing this weekend include Tom Schaar in Skateboard Big Air and Skateboard Park, Gary Young in BMX Park and Lizzie Armanto in Women’s Skateboard Park.
