SWEAT DAMAGE AND IPHONES

Do You Need to Sweat the Small Stuff?

Imagine going through your gym workout 15 years ago with your phone, your appointment calendar, your game console, your Walkman, your favorite book, your newspaper, your radio, a deck of cards, a compass and a carpenter's level strapped to your side. Under all that weight, you'd sweat a lot, wouldn't you?

The fact is, even with all those things packed into our handy iPhones, we still sweat a lot at the gym so we need to consider what sweat does to our devices. When it comes to sweat damage, iPhone users report some real problems.

A consumer affairs reporter at Houston's KPRC Channel 2 did a report on iPhones and sweaty iPhone users. She tracked down the folks behind a number of consumer complaints and found that many had either ruined or significantly impaired their iPhones after using them during strenuous and sweaty workouts. One user said she would have never bought the iPhone had she known it would get ruined the first time she took it to the gym.

You may know that iPhones have sensors to alert technicians whenever the devices have been exposed to water. The KPRC reporter concluded that the iPhone moisture detector can be tripped by an overly sweaty hand and unfortunately, the Apple warranty does not cover water damage.

The smart thing to do is to keep yours in a waterproof iPhone case when you're working out. Safely inside your LifeProof iPhone case, you can sweat like an NFL lineman during summer preseason training camp and not have to worry about damage to your phone. On top of all the aches and pains that come with a good workout, the last thing you need is a sweat-damaged iPhone.

Further, if you want to cap off your trip to the gym with a dip in the pool, you can take your iPhone along as you log a few laps. LifeProof cases give you waterproof protection down to 6.6 feet for up to a half hour. And, with the LifeProof iPhone 5 Armband, you can workout with your iPhone at arm’s reach – literally.
One more important point: When you're ready to hit the locker room after your workout, you take your LifeProof protected iPhone and stick it under running water to rinse off the sweat.

Here's the way we'd sum it up:
• Working out with your iPhone is great
• Sweat can wick into the iPhone and damage it
• Water damage is not covered by the Apple warranty
• A LifeProof waterproof iPhone case protects against sweat
• LifeProof cases clean up easily with tap water
